Dear WCL Members
I’ve some exciting news to share. A deceased member of the Women’s Community League, Katherine Westell bequeathed a gift of $62,366.17 to our organization! Each and every one of us should be grateful and proud of her trust in us to continue to carry out our WCL mission. In light of our uncertainty in the Barn and Clothing Exchange, this bequest provides a safety net for the WCL. Let me assure you our intention is to safeguard this money for long term support of the WCL mission. I am embarrassed that I never had the opportunity to meet this generous woman. If any members have memories of her, perhaps we could create a tribute for her on our facebook page. Please contact me if you’d like to share anything that we could place on our website. Thank you Katherine Westell!
The Clothing Exchange staff just completed the seasonal turnover. Approximately 50 bags of clothing were donated to “Neighbors Who Care in Waltham”. They were so appreciative. We also donated to the St Vincent De Paul Organization. In addition, we reached out to Weston Friendly and the High School for productions. We are now gearing up for Spring and Summer donations! Come on in and join us for lunch and shopping any Tuesday!
The Winter Chill Party was such a success. Appetizers and drinks with members and guests on a chilly evening in a warm, inviting atmosphere. What could be better? The WCL Garden Club “Valentine Mini Arrangements” were assembled at Sunrise Assisted Living. It was truly gratifying to witness the joy and smiles of residents. An added bonus - one member was a former WCL member! Susan Smick organized Dining Around at Dumpling Daughter -a great option in case of inclement weather. Great food and friends! Lee, please recover quickly from your knee surgery- we miss you!
It's difficult to believe we are entering March! The Garden Club will usher in Spring with a trip to the Boston Flower Show. Everyone is welcome to attend. On March 22, the WCL reserved an area at Waxy O’Connors in Lexington. A fun “Irish Pub” with dinner, music, and dancing. The Cover Band is RoZwell which plays a mix of Country, Classic Rock, and Pop. Bring your dancing shoes! Dining Around (March 27th) will try out the new Federalist restaurant in Waltham: a steakhouse and Italian inspired menu.
Please save the date for the WCL Membership Drive at Kelly Renner’s house the evening of March 27. Bring your friends and neighbors to learn about our mission! Let’s show everyone we’re a fun, inviting group while reconnecting with each other!
If you have any question regarding the calendar, events, membership, check out our website, send an email, or give me a call or drop by the Barn on a Tuesday. Thank you for being a WCL member!
Sincerely,
Gina Hajjar
