February 2020

Hello Everyone,

Happy early Valentine’s Day!  WCL has some events to fight the Winter doldrums.

Check out the WCL Event Calendar.  “Hors D'Oeuvres You’ll Love”  will be a fun evening to meet some new friends. Please RSVP now! The monthly WCL/COA Luncheon is Thursday, February 6 in the lovely COA gathering room from 11-1p.m. It’s a bright, beautiful room and easy way to reconnect with each other. We are gaining some traction and would love for you to drop in for sandwiches and soup.  Simple and fun. The COA is located at the Weston Community Center, 20 Alphabet Lane.

The WCL will meet at Sunrise on Thursday, February 13, from 10-11:30.  Residents really look forward to participating in the assembly of miniature Valentine arrangements, to make miniature Valentine arrangement.

The Nominating Committee is entering an active phase.  Please consider joining the WCL Board.  We love new talents and ideas! We have really been undergoing real change and help is needed! Please reach out to me at

It is such sad news that we lost Laura Gagliardi and Biz Paynter this past month. They were both such vibrant, giving members. It seems especially relevant that we embrace the bonds and friendships we have shared as members of WCL. Thank you for being a member, friend, and for helping us continue our Social, Philanthropic and Educational Mission.

WCL President, 2018-2020

Sarah Hartzell is an Ohio native who now lives near Boston, Massachusetts.

Her passion for cooking was stoked at an early age by her grandmothers. As a toddler, she would help them pit cherries for cherry pie. Her technique has improved since then (she gets significantly less cherry juice on the walls), and she continues to expand my culinary skill set. Sarah loves passing this knowledge and passion on to other home cooks.

The title for her blog, company, and website, "two knives and a pan" comes from her love of simple techniques. While Sarah has a kitchen full of cooking tools, she firmly believes that you can make wonderful and delicious food if you only have two knives and a pan.

Sarah has channeled her love of cooking in two ways: she is a personal chef who provides weekly meal prep services with her company, Two Knives and a Pan and she is also an instructor at Milk Street Cooking School in Boston.

Council on Aging Needs Your Help
A fun way of giving back for 2020 will just take a little of your time. The Council on Aging is looking for help every Thursday from 9:15-1pm, to help seniors shop at Market Basket or Hannaford. You would accompany the group on the COA van and assist in getting people on and off the van, shopping for groceries, and carry groceries into their homes, if needed. It is a delightful way to spend a Thursday morning.
Also, the COA needs new drivers for our FISH Medical Transportation Program. The F.I.S.H. Program (Weston’s Friends in Service Helping) matches local volunteer drivers with older adults needing occasional or short term rides to medical appointments locally and to Boston.  Drive residents to medical appointments. You can do one-way or the round-trip depending on your schedule.
Any interest or questions:
Call the COA, 781-786-6280 and speak to Audrey
