Dear WCL Members,

Here’s an update on WCL . . .

“Hors d’Oeuvres You’ll Love” was such a fun evening; a wonderful mix of old and new friends and quick, tasty bites. Special thanks to Kelly Renner for hosting and Leslye and Colleen for putting the event together. The Valentine Arrangements event at Sunrise was well received by residents and brightened our hearts as well.

Are you feeling the loss of the Barn connection? Stop by for lunch on Thursday, March 5th between 11-1pm at the Council on Aging Community Room. Gather to catch up with old and new friends. Join other WCL members on March 12th with a jolt of spring at the Boston Flower Show. This will be the last flower show at the Boston Seaport venue. We are postponing the Encore Casino trip until the spring due to member concerns regarding the coronavirus. Our next Speaker Series about simplifying your life and loving your home and garden is scheduled for April 7th.

The nominating committee is actively searching members for the 2020-2022 WCL Board. Members meet the first Monday of each month. Help us carry out WCL’s social, educational, and philanthropic mission and continue Building Community. Please let me know if you are interested in joining the board.

The WCL yearbook is scheduled for September 2020.

WCL Home and Garden Group

9:45 am - 3:15 pm

The WCL Home and Garden group is planning a car pool trip to the Boston Flower and Garden Show on Thursday, March 12th. As in prior years, we will carpool in 2 minivans and can accommodate up to 14 people. We can add another car if necessary.

We will meet at the Weston Public Library parking lot at 9:45 am. We will drive to the Seaport World Trade Center with an estimated arrival time of 10:30 am. We plan to leave the show between 2:00 and 2:30 pm. We will return to Weston around 3:15 pm at the latest.

There is no cost to the trip but you must provide your own ticket to enter the Flower Show. Tickets cost $22 for adults and $19 for seniors and are available at the door or online.

On Thursday there will be lectures on Ikebana, succulent kokodama, container gardening, and a lecture on decorating for parties titled: A Great Party - Designing the Perfect Celebration, Booksigning & Presentation by Boston's Premier Event Planner, Bryan Rafanelli!!

Council on Aging Needs Your Help

A fun way of giving back for 2020 will just take a little of your time. The Council on Aging is looking for help every Thursday from 9:15-1pm, to help seniors shop at Market Basket or Hannaford. You would accompany the group on the COA van and assist in getting people on and off the van, shopping for groceries, and carry groceries into their homes, if needed. It is a delightful way to spend a Thursday morning.

Also, the COA needs new drivers for our FISH Medical Transportation Program. The F.I.S.H. Program (Weston’s Friends in Service Helping) matches local volunteer drivers with older adults needing occasional or short term rides to medical appointments locally and to Boston. Drive residents to medical appointments. You can do one-way or the round-trip depending on your schedule.
