The WCL Scholarship Fund provides merit and need-based scholarships to graduating Weston High School students. In 1930, the scholarship program began by awarding $150 to one Weston High School senior. Since then, WCL has donated over $1,000,000 to graduating Weston High School students. Beyond scholarship, the WCL provides support, in both time and money, to many charitable organizations and to critical projects for the town. Past donations have substantially improved town buildings such as the Josiah Smith Tavern and Barn, the Weston Public Library, and the Community Center. Charities which WCL will support in 2020-21 include Weston CARES Fund, Dignity Matters, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Council on Aging Food Bank, and REACH Beyond Domestic Violence.
WCL’s signature event is the town-wide Winter Festival, established in 2018 to kick off the organization’s centennial celebration and to foster its legacy of Building Community Since 1919. What started as a simple tree lighting idea has morphed into a fun-filled, activity packed afternoon for the entire community. A Gingerbread Treasure Hunt at participating town merchants has also been added to the mix. In 2021 WCL purchased a 20’ fir tree that was planted at Knox Park in town center and will be lit each year at the conclusion of the Winter Festival.
